Nowhere better
I do not think it would be possible to go on a better safari anywhere in Africa. The experience was utterly incredible. From the initial welcome when you arrive at the lodge, to the quality of the lodgings and then what matters on a safari, the driver and tracker’s ability to locate animals. We certainly saw all the big five. The sightings of leopards and lions were out of this world. I did not know it was possible to be so close to these animals in the wild. One day we saw 12 lions having their post dinner (zebra) snooze. Another day we just sat in the van next to a sleeping leopard. On both occasions the animals were literally within touching distance.
Of course it is the people at the lodge who make the experience wonderful, so many many thanks to them all.

Beyond amazing experience. There are no words to do the team justice. From beginning to the end, everyone was so lovely and fun. Our guide Gideon and our tracker Eric, thank you, we had a blast. Every ride, the kids program, the attention, the way you handle the environment and are respectful to all the animals.. Rene, the manager, Eunice the assistant and last but not least the total staff. Totally amazing team.
Something we did not expect nor had any expectation about, was the food and the setting. Had a lovely welcome dance party, and the food was just sublime. Each an every day. We felt home, you have a precious team.
We have traveled a lot, but Kambaku in Timbavati is just a little paradise.
Absolutely amazing holiday!
My wife and I celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary in 2023 and elected to go on a road trip holiday this year in South Africa to celebrate. We can honestly say the highlight of our wonderful trip was our two night stay at Kambaku at Sea. The location is stunning the rooms and views are amazing but most importantly the staff are incredible. Nothing was too much trouble for them and their attention to every detail was outstanding. We cannot praise them and thank them enough for making our anniversary celebration absolutely amazing. Our stay with them was definitely the highlight of our trip. If you are in the area of Sedgefield you really must stay there you won’t regret it. We really hope to be able to return!
Lovely views and great service
Spectacular views and a feeling of exclusivity. Rooms are very well equipped and staff all go out of their way to make the whole experience special. Breakfast was lovely too, as was the special river cruise which allowed us to explore the lagoon privately for over 1.5 hours. Highly recommended.
A stellar experience!
This was our first ever Safari and it did not disappoint. Kambaku was just fantastic. From the warm welcomes, fantastic food and friendly staff, beautifully appointed rooms with huge attached baths, we couldn’t have asked for more. Renee and Craig do an awesome job of managing this place and our Safari guide and tracker Gideon and Reforestation literally went out of their way to make sure we saw the big 5 and more. Would highly recommend this place to anyone. The lodges are not air conditioned so would pick a cooler season to go, however this did not detract from our overall experience, it was memorable.
Beyond expectations
Kambaku River Sands was the highlight of our 3 week trip to South Africa. The room, lodge, food, and spa all were luxurious. The game drives twice a day were beyond my expectations. We saw the Big 5 a couple times over and so many other animals. Waking up at 4:45 a.m. was worth it.
They create a warm atmosphere that encourages guests to get to know each other. Thank you Cordy, Lalla, Guy, Renais and so many others for an outstanding experience.
